I have a lot of friends who aren’t as versed in the world of social media. Everyone you know is on Facebook, but less than 10% of them (according to a survey that I read once) are on Twitter. So I am often asked, “What the hell is twitter all about?” or “How is it different from Facebook?”
And my metaphor-loving-self will reply with the following:
Facebook is a family reunion. You know everyone, you don’t want to talk to anyone. Twitter is a cocktail party where everyone is a little buzzed… so you don’t mind popping into conversations for any length of time whether you know the people involved or not.
That’s really just for personal use. Things are a little different with brands and Facebook Pages and the like, but I find it helpful for teaching purposes.
If you’re an avid user of both, how do you explain it to people?
